Episode 10: Neil Gooding

This week Flick and Luisa interview the wonderful Neil Gooding, who is arguably one of the most important names to know when it comes to original Australian musicals. Neil is the producer of The Hatpin, LOVEBiTES, and Breast Wishes, and his hit show Back to the 80s is the most performed Australian musical in the world. In commercial theatre, Neil has worked with Jacobsen Entertainment on shows such as Dirty Dancing and The Man from Snowy River: The Arena Spectacular. His current pro-am production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat is playing at Parramatta Riverside until Saturday 26 Feb.

In this highly entertaining and informative discussion, Neil shares his insights about working in pro-am theatre, the gap between commercial musicals and subsidised theatre, the new generation of writers that are beginning to define Australian musical theatre, and which roles he prefers to work in.

Episode 9: Life's A Circus

This week Lu interviews Australian musical theatre actor Cameron MacDonald. They discuss the critically acclaimed original musical "Life's A Circus", with music by Anthony Costanzo and book by Peter Fitzpatrick. "Life's a Circus" has twice been a finalist in the Pratt Awards, featured in OzMade Musicals, and produced by Magnormos at the Chapel Off Chapel Theatre in Melbourne. Lu and Cameron also have a look at Cameron's time aboard the Royal Caribbean cruise ships as a performer, work on other original Australian musicals, and touring with the Australian casts of Mamma Mia, Altar Boyz, and Jersey Boys.

Lu and Flick take a look at a new original Australian musical, "Open for Inspection: The Real Estate Musical" playing at Darlinghurst Theatre, Sydney, until 13 Feb. Lu interviews the cast, along with the director and book writer of the show, and they discuss the process of developing a new work, the future of independent musical theatre, and the challenges of staging a new musical.
