This week Flick and Luisa interview the wonderful Neil Gooding, who is arguably one of the most important names to know when it comes to original Australian musicals. Neil is the producer of The Hatpin, LOVEBiTES, and Breast Wishes, and his hit show Back to the 80s is the most performed Australian musical in the world. In commercial theatre, Neil has worked with Jacobsen Entertainment on shows such as Dirty Dancing and The Man from Snowy River: The Arena Spectacular. His current pro-am production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat is playing at Parramatta Riverside until Saturday 26 Feb.
In this highly entertaining and informative discussion, Neil shares his insights about working in pro-am theatre, the gap between commercial musicals and subsidised theatre, the new generation of writers that are beginning to define Australian musical theatre, and which roles he prefers to work in.
Listen in to hear how Neil got started in the theatre, how development programs like Carnegie 18 and New Musicals Australia work, and what is happening next in new musical theatre writing in Australia!
